Tiny Davis was a convicted murderer electrocuted in Florida. The execution was horrific, with flames leaping out of Davis's leather face mask, stirring good controversy. I was pursuing the phenomenon of horror-beauty, which I ended up illustrating rather than executing by an overprint of flowers.
See that hyphen as compounding the two words. What finally was executed (no pun intended, but what the hell) was something more oblique and speechless: tragedy of such dimension that there's nothing to do but throw flowers around and cry for all concerned.
